FOR CAUSE - REQUIRED BY ALL MODES
Based on documented observations of DOT trained supervisors (Training will be reviewed in an audit)
- The employee who makes a for cause test decision is required to have taken and compleated DOT required training. The training includes 60 minutes on drugs of abuse and 60 minutes of alcohol misuse education.
- Your company should have drug & alcohol trained employees available during all hours and shifts of operation.
- If possible have more then one trained employee able to make reasonable cause testing determinations.
- Once a For Cause Test is conducted the employee tested must stand down until the result of the test is reported.
- Never send someone for a reasonable cause test, the individual to be tested must be escorted throughout the testing process. You could be liable if an accident occurs on their way to or from the collection or testing facility when a Reasonable Suspicion test is being conducted.
THE DOT DRUG PANEL - REQUIRED BY ALL MODES
The DOT PANEL tests only for the metabolites of the following 5 drugs

COCAINE (METAB) 300 ng/ml 150 ng/ml

PHENCYCLIDINE 25 ng/ml 25 ng/ml
- Drugs and cutoff levels are subject to change (DOT Notification)
- Urine is the Only methadology used for DOT drug tests.
- At the lab first a screening test is conducted on every specimen submitted.
- If a specimen screens positive for a drug(s) a Gas Spectrometry, Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) confirmation test is automatically conducted.
- An initial Screen and a GC/MS are run on all POSITIVE tests before, being reported by the lab to the MRO.
- The DOT requires the lab to report all test results only to a certified MRO.
ALL drug test results both positive and negative must be received & reviewed by a certified MRO
DOT requires test of split sample when requested by donor within 72 hours of MRO interview
SIGNATURE COPY OF CCF
- The MRO must have a copy (2,3,4 or 5) of the CCF with the donors name/signature in their possession, before a compleated result can be released to the DER (sig copies are often reviewed during audit). REQUIREMENT INCLUDES NEGATIVE RESULTS.
- Delays in receiving the signature copy will cause delays in reporting results.
- If no signature copy is received the result will not be reported by the MRO.
- Under DOT regulations the test is not canceled but cannot be reported until the required document is
received.
- All collectors should be Instructed to electronically forward MRO copy of the CCF to the MRO.
- You must have a result for each test conducted - Never assume that no news is good news.
